heaven and hell -- it’s not a new concept given that she walks amongst demigods day to day. she’s yet to visit hades’ official realm but she’s certain this must be a certain ring of it.

the questions are too many and the concepts difficult and unfortunately this is not a new conundrum for her. still, she supposes that she recognizes more than usual, managing not to completely shut down after only filling in her name. she skips a few and answers others, the studying from their all nighter pulling through. she’ll have to thank ain properly later for saving her from completing bombing yet another test. heaven knows how many more she can afford to fail without being held back a year. 

still, it’s a good sign when she’s not the last one for once submitting her test. with all her belongings gathered, she hands the paper off and scrambles out of the room, eager for fresh air and to put this long stretch of preparation and studying and learning behind for the day.

Here we go again.

Joon Woo thought this to themselves as they stared at the triathlon course their friend Ain had set up along the beach. Sitting just at the water’s edge were couple of jet skis, weighted floats spread out to form a track over the ocean until it led back to the sand a ways away from where the demigods stood. From there, a couple of bikes that would lead up the road back to campus, where they would pull up to the picnic tables just outside one of the café and hold their final match—arm wrestling.

None of this was Joon Woo’s idea, he’d like to clarify. Ain had been like this since their first encounter, a typical Ares kid, looking for fights, to be better, to just have a good time. All Joon Woo had wanted was to get through the readings for his courses when he had bumped shoulders with the guy. An honest mistake, really, but that hadn’t stopped Ain from throwing a fist, Joon Woo from losing control in his alarm, and both ending up in the infirmary not soon after due to the wild progression of events.

Instead of causing them to become enemies, though, Joon Woo and Ain had laughed like a pair of children. Joon Woo had gotten a bit of a kick out of Ain’s antics. Since then, Ain has been challenging Joon to competitions, always with a wager thrown in to make it more exciting. Joon Woo had accepted on the belief it was good training and good fun.

And so here they were, the pair in swimwear (the wetsuit Joon wore was purely for aesthetics, obviously), preparing to take down one another. Joon Woo smiled at Ain, excitedly.

“Ready to get your ass whooped,” Joon Woo goaded. It was all false bravado, though. Joon Woo, like always, is worried about how this will turn out, especially since the stakes are so high.

After all, ever since the competitions have started, Ain has only had one goal:

To tattoo a dolphin on Joon Woo’s ass when Poseidon’s kid finally loses.
