How does Europe affect our everyday lives? How does it impact our jobs, our families, our health care, our hobbies, our journeys, our security, our consumer choices and our social rights? And how is Europe present in our towns, cities and regions?
EU rules limit the cost of electronic payments or withdrawals in euros within the EU, and prevent you being charged extra just for using your card.
Bye bye credit card surcharges!
From this year, no shops or traders in the EU are allowed to apply any additional fees to my purchases just for using a credit or debit card.

Hello there,
it’s just your friendly reminder that if you are a European citizen and are over 18 yo*, on 23-26** May 2019 you’ll be able to have your say on your future; if you don’t vote, there’ll surely be someone else that will choose for you, so why waste this chance?
Go make sure you’re registered to vote! If you’re not, find out how to at spaceu2019
If you’re still unsure who to vote for, you could use this site, even just to have a look at what parties are showing up this year.
Go here to find more information on how it all works and why it matters.
* or 17, if you live in 🇬🇷, or 16, if you are in 🇦🇹 or 🇲🇹
** it depends on which country you’re living in
In early December, I decided to apply for the EU initiative called DiscoverEU, allowing over 12,000 selected 18 year olds to travel across the continent of Europe for free for up to 30 days... And guess what? I got selected!! 😃
“So what does that mean for you?”
Starting in around mid-July, I will be travelling to Brussels, Belgium to begin my journey across Europe. Originally, only I was listed on the application, and I unfortunately still am. Having said that though, what’s the fun in travelling alone?? Although they will not also be travelling for free, a few of my friends will be accompanying me in my travels, so we can all share this once-in-a-lifetime thrilling adventure together!
“Who are these friends you’re taking?”
I will announce this nearer the time when everything is confirmed. 😉
“Aren’t you nervous at all?”
Of course I am! Nervous af! Who wouldn’t be? 😂
Let me tell you one thing I’ve heard though; A comfort zone is a beautiful place... but nothing ever grows there. If you want a simple and ordinary life, then by all means stay in that zone. But if you want a grand and fulfilling life filled with thrill and adventure, both good times and bad, love and anguish, fear and excitement - then you’ve gotta leave that ease and comfort behind! Like Yes Theory say, seek discomfort!
Yes Theory have been a big part of my life, and they have brought back the life, soul and goals I once had in me that I briefly lost - they fell victim to the mundane painstaking day-to-day routine I’d had for years, upon years, upon years, upon years, upon years, upon years......
But that’s not what I want my life to be. I want to do things everyone says are impossible. I want to accomplish tasks people think no one ever could. I crave movement. I want to progress and improve, I want to move forward and succeed, I want to accomplish things I once thought I never could, and do things I never before would. I want to be the best version of myself I can ever be!
“What are your plans?”
Honestly, I have no clue! It’s a little too early to know exactly where we want to go yet, and we have ages to come up with ideas, so this will also be announced at a later date.
Although having said that, I do anticipate us making a lot of the route up along the way, and deciding our next destinations on-the-go. 😜
“Will you keep us updated?”
Hell yeah we will! You can check back to this blog for regular news and updates at any time by visiting discovereu.paulotorcato.com. There probably won’t be much else to see for a while hence this massive first post, but there will be many updates posted frequently near to and during the journey, so stay tuned!! 😄
And that’s pretty much all there is to say for now, but there will be a lot more (shorter and probably less formal) posts in the future for y’all to see, so watch out for those!
