Good Trouble in Little 5 Points, ATL
Two motels on Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio, as seen in an (apparently) mid-1950s color slide. Watson's Motor Hotel was at 3333 Euclid Avenue (US Route 20) and the Colonial House Motel was at 3301 Euclid Avenue. No trace remains today. Image from the Flickr feed of Alan Mays.
Further west on Euclid Avenue (than the previous post) is this view including the RKO Palace and Loew’s State theaters, virtual neighbors in what is known today as Cleveland’s theater district.
This 1956 view (Pillars in the Sky is showing at the Palace, which had been recently retrofitted for CinemaScope) appears to be from a postcard. It came from a New Zealand transportation blog but must be common since a crop of it also appears at the above Cinematreasures theater links.
As for Pillars of the Sky, it appears to be the usual overblown racist 1950s western. But I might check it out anyway since it stars Dorothy Malone, whom I’ve admired ever since seeing her as the girl in the book shop opposite Bogart in The Big Sleep--you too can check it out here.
You've heard of Higbee's and Halle's, but what about Taylor's? Here's a brief history of this long-forgotten downtown Cleveland department store.
