Eumir Deodato – Idéias
While many Americans remember Eumir Deodato for his 1972 funky hit rendition of “Also Sprach Zarathurstra (2001),” his career has been long and varied, before and since. In his native Brazil, Deodato was involved in the original bossa nova scene. In 1967, he relocated to the U.S. and worked as a keyboard player, arranger, and/or conductor with performers as disparate as Frank Sinatra, Stanley Turrentine, and Bjork. Blue Note has now reissued IDEIAS, Deodato’s 1964 debut, where he first spread his wings in an intimate, relaxed small-group setting, combining Brazilian melodies and rhythms with the improvisational language of jazz (Mark Keresman/AllMusic).
