Artist Research - Eun Mi Chun
Eun Mi Chun is a Korean artist who makes animal figures from human hair and dried intestinal skin of animals. While I don’t particularly find her works outstanding, I find the process behind her works interesting and inspiring.
Eun Mi Chun uses materials with strong symbolic meaning, it’s one form she uses to express her ideas. She believes that the idea, concept, aesthetic form and material are aspects which are vital in making works. The materials she uses are chosen for their aesthetic, symbolic and metaphysical value.
Like Chun, I would like to use materials that have cultural significance to me. I want to make works that hold personal meaning and I think the materials and colours that I choose to use will help me do that. I also agree with Chun that the idea, concept, aesthetic form and material are elements that I will need to think carefully about to make strong resolved works.
