The iredecci remind me a little bit of Ursula K. LeGuin's Athsheans in terms of their culture, connection to nature and the 'singing' that is integral to both! I just finished the word for world is forest and it was an amazing (but incredibly topical and depressing) read. I was wondering what books you were inspired by when making cantata and viatica?
Hi anon! Iâve never read any of Ursula K LeGuinâs works. That sounds interesting but Iâm not sure I want to read anything depressing right now. đ
I was a BIG fan of dystopian fiction when I was younger. Viatica was inspired by âAnthemâ, âFahrenheit 451â, and â1984â.
Cantata wasnât inspired by any books, but it started with the video game âJade Empireâ. From there, it just kinda grew out of my own head, lol. Itâs heavily influenced by real life histories and cultures, though. The Iredicci for instance, were mostly inspired by Native Americans, but also have Romani, Hawaiian and Persian influences. For example, the naming convention the Iredicci have is Hawaiian. I talk about it and other instances of real world inspo in this ask here.
My favorite author is Amy Tan, and she also greatly influenced the way I approach storytelling. I speak more on her in this ask here, but sheâs a Chinese American author who writes about culture and the loss of it.
Ok I updated the Revenant influence sheet one more time if anyone's interested lol

There's no story yet so no narrative inspirations lol a couple obvious eye-rollers, whatever. some of these are there for one super specific thing they did. etc. "đ«” the transgender is just listing off things that she played as a kid!" yeah womp womp

Heya! Your artsyle is so cool, and I thought "That looks french" and lo and behold, you're at the gobelins. The french touch really is something in art i guess. Care to share your fav inspirations? I'm a fan of a lot of things, and I don't draw according to most of them, but old ass comics like Thorgal have my heart!
Hey fellow frenchie !
(this might be a long one, do NOT ask me to talk about things I like or do so at your own risk ; now, BUCKLE UP)
Then I got a phone call from a number that I didnât recognize. I donât normally pick them up because you never knew whoâs on the other end. But I picked it up. My gut feeling said, âJohn, answer this call.â I answered it and it was Liam. He was really buzzing and really excited. He said he just got off the phone with [his kid], Noel, and they wanted us to open for Oasis. He asked, âJohn, do you want to open for us?â And I was like, âAre you kidding me, man? Do I want to open for you? Um, yeah!â We had a great conversation. Liam was like the way Liam is. Heâs kind of abstract, but heâs genuine. He was going on about how important it was for us to open the tour. He started singing my song âSandstorm.â When I hung up, the dressing room just erupted. Every band wouldâve wanted to open on this tour. These gigs have become more than just a show. Itâs a happening. Itâs a gathering. Theyâve been absolutely wild.
