Long-tailed Aphideater (Complex Eupeodes americanus), taken December 13, 2025, in Georgia, US
A black and yellow aphideater enjoying a warm winter day! This guy was my buddy for an hour or so while I sat next to a massive patch of aphids, looking for anything cool within the hoard of wasps that were flitting around them. This individual may have been old and weak because it refused to fly even when it was startled by my movement. Instead, it sat serenely in the sunlight and watched the aphids swarm over the pine mulch ahead. It made a good little photography buddy, unlike some other insects I've had stick with me, literally and metaphorically!
