Due to interest, and frankly a demand on increasing our spaces, Ali and I have decided to expand our current capacity from 45 to 55. When Ali and I first put our heads down and concocted Eureka, we never imagined that so many people would flock to us and this space. We are so humbled and flattered to have been trusted with your muse.
A change we have already made to address our full count was initially to exclude admin characters, which other RP’s did but we’d initially decided not to do. We’ve remained open and flexible to what our members have asked for, and we’re extremely happy to be able to have such an embarrassment of wealth in all of you, our community.
However, Ali and I are just two people, and our commitment to keeping this a small, tight-knit space remains steadfast. As our guidelines have always stated, we may increase or lower the count at any time, but feel at this moment, to accommodate for wanted connections being filled, and to welcome new writers this is an important, positive step. Going forward, it is very unlikely we will budge much beyond this number, particularly in respect to our aforementioned mission of keeping Eureka small.
Whether you’re driving home for Christmas, or keeping warm by the fire, the city of Eureka, California is proud to announce its annual Winterfest....
Stroll through our Christmas Market on Carson Square, housing stalls from local businesses selling trinkets and gifts — ideal to give to loved ones this holiday season! Don’t forget to visit Santa in his grotto - but remember, only the good children get presents! Grab your gloves and get your skates on for our yearly outdoor ice rink, supported by the staff from Eureka Valley Ice Rink. With a portion of all the profits from the ice rink being donated directly to charity to support needy families during the holiday season, whether you’re a little wobbly on the ice or a true pro, you can skate in peace, knowing that you’re helping some of Eureka’s most needy.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Winterfest without our giant Christmas Tree, and this years Nordic Fir stands at a whopping 15 feet. Special thanks to the student body of both Eureka High School, Alice Birney Elementary, as well as the support of Wiyot Cultural Centre, as well as by our local businesses to dress the tree.
Don’t forget to stop by the Food Market where you can pick up a spicy glass of mulled wine ( or hot chocolate for the little ones ), and listen to local musicians and the Methodist’s own choir singing traditional holiday carols.
Spot some of our reporters from K94.5 who will be hosting fun competitions for everyone both on air and live at the market. Grab your popcorn and a blanket and catch some of those holiday favourites - Eureka Theatre have set up a pop up movie screen on the green, playing holiday favourites Elf, Its a Wonderful Life, Love Actually and Home Alone ( please contact the theatre directly for accurate movie times ).
And for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Market, find peace and spiritualism at both the Methodist — which will be hosting mass all throughout the holiday season, including Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and all the Christmas Day Services; and Temple Beth El, who will be hosting a ‘make your own mezuzah’ stall, and Hanukkiah kits provided by Chabad of Humboldt County, as well as hourly reenactments of the miracle of the Maccabees from the very first Hanukkah.
Finally, as a special festive treat our much beloved Horse Carriage Rides are offering a holiday trip, perfect for you and the family, taking riders around the city to look at all of the lights and down to the bay before arriving back into Old Town.
From the city of Eureka, we wish you a happy and healthy holiday season.
So, it’s hard to believe but we’re actually here opening up for interactions. And, given the holiday season we decided to open with a mini event - Winterfest. Winterfest will be running in the background and is not a mandatory event by any means, so if you’d rather kick off threads which are completely separate from Winterfest that’s totally fine! Winterfest will be running from Saturday 19th to January 3rd 2021 to ensure that everyone has as much of a chance to get involved.
The businesses that are involved in Winterfest are:
Horse Carriage Rides
Delish on 5th
Humboldt Bay Coffee Company
Humboldt Cider Co Taproom
El Pueblo Panaderia
K94.5
Lumbermill Mercantile
Eureka Theater
Henderson’s Farmers’ Market
Temple Beth El
Methodist Church
If your character has a business and would like to be included on this list, drop us a message and let us know.
Please tag anything to do with the event with #eurekawinterfest - this can be anything from threads, self paras, outfits ( who doesn’t love that holiday aesthetic) - go wild! We want this roleplay to be as relaxed as possible, and we know for a lot of people this year’s holiday season isn’t going to be nearly as fun, so we hope you can find some comfort in Eureka.
Wow! Ali and I are so touched and humbled by those of you who have chosen Eureka as your home in the past few weeks. We set out to make Eureka a group that allows people to explore their muse and watching your characters develop on the dash has filled us with immense joy.
As we’re very near our initial 40 character limit, we’ve both concluded that to be fair to those who have submitted reservations, we will be extending our limit to 45, at which point Eureka will be full. Make sure if you’re thinking about applying you get your applications in soon, as a reservation does not guarantee a spot.
Hello everyone! We just wanted to check in as we officially welcome fall. We are still very much here and looking forward to celebrating our 2 year anniversary very soon!
