Down to the Last Four in U19 European Championship
It appears that England’s youth team is human. I only say this because England won the U17 and U20 World Cup tournaments in 2017 and for a moment I thought that the baby Three Lions were looking good to take another tournament.
But the problems came when the English ran into the French on the final group phase day and it was the latter that destroyed England with a 5-0 victory.
Two of the goals were scored by Amine Gouiri to add to the brace he had in the previous match against Turkey.
The semifinals are set for 26 July and it will be Italy facing France and Ukraine battling Portugal.
One of the final four teams will win the tournament, but the four semifinalists have booked their tickets to the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland.
As for England, not all is lost. The two third-placed teams from both groups will play for one more spot in next year’s U20 World Cup.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: July 26, 3:00 a.m. (GMT)
England will face Norway in Seinajoki and the match is due to kickoff prior to the semifinals that will be played in Vaasa.
Online bookmaker 10Bet has the latest odds available for the two semifinal matches.
Currently Portugal is favored with 1.86 odds while Ukraine has 3.75 odds. France is heavily favored with 1.76 odds while the Italians have 4.15 odds.
The odds don’t mean much, and I think any of the four remaining teams can win this tournament.
But it is safe to say that the bookies are expecting France to win the tournament under the leadership of striker Gouiri.
Gouiri of Lyon currently is the top scorer in the tournament with four goals.
Les Bleus just won its second World Cup and next it would be perfect to see France’s U19 team become champions of Europe.

Can England Win Another Youth Tournament?
I think it is safe to say that many English football fans probably aren’t paying attention to the European U19 Championship.
After all, England’s national team was barely beaten in the World Cup semifinals over one week ago.
It is no shock that English supporters are disappointed and there was all this talk about football coming home.
But when you look back at 2017, football came home two times because England claimed the U17 and U20 World Cups!
And now England is already off to a good start in Group B of the 2018 European U19 Championship after defeating Turkey 3-2 in its opening match that was played on 17 July.
In the other group match, it was Ukraine that pulled off the upset by defeating France 2-1.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: July 18, 8:00 p.m. (GMT)
Online bookmaker 10Bet has the latest odds for the Group B matches that will be played on 20 July and currently England is favored to beat Ukraine while France is the heavy favorite to beat Turkey.
England has 1.71 odds while Ukraine has 4.20 odds. In the other match the baby Les Bleus have 1.36 odds while the bookies are not giving Turkey much of a chance with 7.50 odds.
It is easy to say which teams are favored, but I think France is in trouble considering it got off to a bad start by losing to Ukraine.
There is a lot to play for in this tournament and we all know that the two top teams make it to the semifinals and 2019 U20 World Cup that will be played in Poland.
But as is always the case with these youth tournaments, one other team will need to book the last spot and that means finishing in third will mean a playoff match with the other third placed team to determine that last spot for a European team at next summer’s tourney in Poland.
If Turkey and France are able to win the next matches, it will really make this group exciting going into the final group match day.
