Wombat Berry
(eustrephus latifolius)
Warning: do not eat these in the wild unless you're a professional and know how to prepare these!
The sole species in its genus, the roots of eustrephus latifolius are eaten more often that its fruits, but they are edible. While they have very little flesh, the flavour description of what amount there is differs from person to person. Some describe it as pleasant and coconutty, while others claim them as 'not particularly palatable'. The tubers that are derived from the roots are eaten baked and have an earthy sweet flavour. Wombat berry can be found in Malesia, the Pacific Islands and eastern Australia.
