Dull Colours | Eva & Rachel [Flashback]
It was a necessary evil for Rachel to attend the ridiculous parties that the capitol would host every once in a while. Her stylists would come and deface her by strapping the most ridiculous clothing onto her body and doing things with her hair that she would never have done with them. She hated it more than anything. Why was it so hard for everyone to believe that she was able to dress and style herself on her own? Or couldn’t they at least be sparser with the glitter and colours? Nevertheless, she didn’t complain knowing by now that there was no way out of it. Instead she was even looking forward to seeing some of the other victors again who she had grown familiar and even friendly with much to her own surprise.
She had been lounging on the couch in the big room for a while already, only disturbed a few more times than she could bear instead of being plagued by curious people all the time, when she noticed a familiar face among the crowd. She almost hadn’t recognised the previous tribute among the colours of the room. Quickly she got to her feet only to get them all tangled up in the hem of her dress. A silent curse left her as she hurriedly untangled herself and strode across the room, this time more careful. “Eva!”, she exclaimed with a smile and threw her arms around the woman. One of the good things about such a painfully cheerful environment was that no one looked at you twice if you reacted overly emotional to seeing someone.
Distracting Disorientation | Eva & Rachel
Rachel’s mood hadn’t really improved ever since she heard about friends of hers being dead. She had adopted the attitude of not caring about it though, quite well. She joked, teased and smiled a lot like nothing was wrong and the only person who might catch a glimpse of how devastated she truly was, she avoided at all cost, even though she secretly felt the longing to share her grief with him. Living wasn’t easy if everyone around you always dies or leaves or is taken away. Her step was light and cheerful as she moved almost silently through the hallway on the way to lunch. By now she knew the way by heart and it didn’t require any attention on her part to make her feet find their way. What had been exciting and new only two months ago was now bitter routine and she felt it start to make her skin itch. The recruit was desperate for some change, especially now when she had lost her morning training partner indefinitely.
She shook her head so hard that a few strands of blonde hair fell out of her carefully styled ponytail. Her eyes focused on her surroundings again as she pushed away the matter which overwhelmed her every day anew. This was also how she noticed an unfamiliar female who looked like she had lost herself in the bunker. The typical look of a new recruit, as Rachel had come to notice. Of course there’d be new recruits coming in now that their ranks had been thinned out quite a bit. The blonde just didn’t know if she was quite ready to make their acquaintance. “Are you alright?”, she asked when she approached the brunette with a warm smile on her face. “You look a bit lost, to be honest. This place can be quite confusing at first.”
It seems the Cardio Department is growing...
Welcome to my domain, minions.
You know, they had a nickname for me back at Stanford...
Any guesses?
Summer slow down? ...Nah.
It seemed like ever since Eva had accepted the position at Seattle Grace Mercy West she hadn't stopped moving. Running, more like. Suddenly she was speaking at conferences every other weekend, implementing and overseeing new training protocol in the cardio department, researching ground-breaking stem cell research alongside her foremost fellow and all on top of her regularly scheduled surgeries - she almost felt like a resident again. Sleep was a dream of the past, and who needed it? She had managed to acquire quite a reputation in the cardiovascular field, and yet suddenly she felt as though she had been running at half power the whole time. Even though this hospital was certainly one of the more...interesting working environments she'd ever experienced, there was something about the tight-knit way the employees worked together. There was a new, irresistible fire in her veins.
