Well, I don't think it's fair to say he didn't love her like he loved Alma. They're very different people and they met in very different situations. I don't think you can ever love two people the same.

What Kit had with Alma was very special. He loved her very much and chose to marry her. But his relationship with Alma was under a lot of stress because they were an interracial couple. Hiding a relationship is very hard and puts a lot of stress on a couple. 

With Grace, they bonded through the trauma of what they endured at Briarcliff. It may not have been the healthiest relationship, but I still think that Kit loved Grace very much. Kit doesn't (to me anyway) seem like the type of guy who would get involved with a woman he didn't care for. And Kit could have left Grace in Briarcliff. She was a murderer, she wasn't just an innocent victim there. But he got her out. He tried to make things work with both women, because he loved them both.

Yes, he loved Alma first, but he loved Grace as well. Grace gave him hope in a very dark place. Grace gave him hope that Alma was still out there. Alma was his wife and he loved her, but he loved Grace too.

I don't know how to say he didn't love Grace as much because of everything he did for Grace.
