Faith for the Faithless || Evander & Giovanni
Evander normally would never be caught inside a church unless he had to, but he was in one today, making his way through to the apartments reserved for the clergy. His encounter the other day with the young Bishop usually would have faded from his memory by now, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off about the boy. He had seen something in his eyes he couldn’t quite place, and he had to know. After all, it could be in his better interest to have the bishop in his pocket. Better to keep his eyes off of Evander’s antics.
And so he had decided to play a visit to the little Bishop. He had said he could be found in his chambers almost any time, but the Chancellor knew for a fact he was out now, for he had seen him in the hall breaking his fast only minutes ago. He turned down the corridor off the church which lead to the clergy’s quarters and crossed the path of an altar boy, head down as he walked swiftly, clearly running late. Evander stopped him by a hand on the shoulder, asking which apartment was housing Bishop Giovanni, and the boy pointed swiftly before scurrying along his way. Evander smirked and made his way to the room, letting himself in easily. He found it odd that the clergy did not keep locked quarters, but he supposed they did not possess anything of value which to protect.
As he’d suspected the quarters were sparse. A bed, a table, a desk and 2 chairs. It was no matter. Evander was happy to make himself at home. He pulled out the chair at the small table and sat down. From inside his breast pocket, he pulled out his snuff box and pipe and placed them on the table. With meticulous patience, he opened the box and began slowly packing tobacco into the pipe as he waited for the bishop to arrive.
