I find the whole thing puzzling as hell so it’s not like I have anything better to offer here. But the idea that Mako’s “discriminating” about bullying, like she’d be totally fine with this set up if Chibs2 were a little boy doesn’t sit right with me at all. At ALL.

I suppose if that’s it I’d follow with the idea that the creators don’t necessarily have to share Yaten’s views (that Mako’s reaction is to want to cave Yaten’s face in is a possible indicator of that). But the whole thing still rubs me the wrong way. It so grossly mischaracterizes Mako, and with the way the creators can’t seem to follow up on any flaws they introduce about the Starlights, I”m not confident it’s going to play out further.

I dunno, maybe the whole thing says more about Yaten and how they may view gender, but that’s not a topic I feel comfortable going into (nor do I think Stars has particularly handled the topic with a lot of sensitivity and nuance). I think I’ll just gloss over the details on this one.
