I made some art of my OC Sweets The Otter and Boon. (Boon does NOT belong to me, he belongs to the wonderful and amazing @e-vay) I just like drawing them interacting cause I see them as good friends. Anyway, I might make more pride related drawings for pride month.
On the AU, if the setting and designs shifts from main canon to Boom, are there cases of characterization shifting canons too? Some cases can be chalked up to growing up (Sonic, Amy), some can be tied to an event (Eggman), and some stay the same as before (Tails, Vector, Metal, Orbot and Cubot; probably Sticks too), but some have wildly different personalities (ie Knuckles and Shadow).
I hope you don't mind me putting your two questions together in one ask.
In the guide to my AU, it says that most everything is meant to follow the game canon and only pulls some elements from Sonic Boom. Boom is basically only used for their design appearance in my AU and to include a minor character or storyline or gag here and there that I enjoyed from the Sonic Boom TV series. Otherwise, their character backgrounds and personalities are based on the main game canon for the most part. The only two characters I've changed personality-wise are Knuckles and Eggman. When you see Knuckles in my AU, for the most part I have him being a little silly and playful, but he's not stupid like he is in the Boom continuity (even though I found that characterization fun). I have it so that after Frontiers, when Knuckles decides he's going to take some breaks from Angel Island, that's where he starts to "loosen up" more, and that's why he is more "playful" in my AU. As far as why Eggman gets more silly and less menacing in my AU compared to how he is in game canon, there's a few factors. 1: Being defeated and beaten down by Team Sonic so many times makes him start to go a bit loony lol. 2: He's been both the bad guy and the good guy a lot at this point (think of all the times where Eggman has to team up with Sonic to save the world), and so he's kind of in this nebulous stage where he doesn't quite know what his goals are anymore. He's still capable of menacing behavior but his personality change is mostly because of an internal struggle he's having with himself.
I completely ignore the Boom!Shadow portrayal. I didn't like him in Boom, and in my AU, Shadow's not even present during the period of time where you see everyone else in their Boom designs.
So to answer your follow-up questions, since Frontiers has Amy and Sticks already being friends at that point, then in my AU they would have become friends before reaching the age where they change into their "Boom" appearance.
I don't remember if I've commented on Lyric before, but I would say no, I don't consider him or his storyline as part of my AU.
Clear as mud? lol. I hope that kinda answered your questions. A good rule of thumb is to mainly take "Boom" as a vanity contribution to my AU, not really the meat of any of my stories.
