I have a boatload of issues with Gravity Falls’ ending, which honestly is the topic for another post altogether. But what disappointed me most was the fallout of Dipper and Mable.

I get what Hirsh probably intended to do with the moment, but the groundwork required for it to work wasn’t really laid out. I presume what he intended was that Dipper and Mabel together would be solving the mysteries (The Mystery Twins) and that Ford’s offer being only to Dipper and his acceptance of it is meant to be read as uncomfortable and clearly wrongheaded. He's abandoning Mabel for both their accomplishments and so she retreats to a fantasy world with a fantasy brother who's always on her side. The problem is that there are no Mystery Twins. Mabel was rarely involved in mysteries with Dipper and sometimes only by serendipity. Instead of a tone deaf offer to half of a team and a selfish Dipper who fails to see how it's unfair to Mabel, we have the sole mystery investigator finally being rewarded only for his sister to pitch a fit because she didn’t get anything out of it.

A Little Spree of Honesty

I showed my bro and mom some of my videos today, including my most recent one. What is the most funny about it is that they never really realized I actually have a very big fanbase doing videos and stuff online. I had been talking about asking my dad for help on the tax stuff for monetization on videos while making dinner. My brother said “Wait isn’t that only useful if you have like 10k subs or something to be a partner?” and I just kinda said “I mean yeah I’m almost at 11k so I started it, I just gotta go through the official process--” and he was literally super shocked XD

Like every time I talked about what I’ve done on yt my fam has been like moderately impressed, but just sort of brushed it off as more of a hobby or passion than anything. I think it dawned on them today when I finally showed them my videos something really clicked in their brains. They saw the sub count, the views, a few comments, and some other stuff. They were like “oh wow you actually are really big, you really could make some money on this,” I’ve been reluctant to show them most of my videos because I know that they do not understand exactly how it works with online fame-esque things, and especially for my parents they really didn’t trust internet interactions at all. It’s a weird feeling since they aren’t a part of this kind of community and have never been introduced to what an online presence means, but I am super happy that they are more supportive about it now (as long as I get some sleep lol).
