We grow attached to others and become afraid to part because we think we’ll lose ourselves—even if you believe you two are meant to be, and even if you no longer feel what you once felt. That’s the thing when you choose to be with someone: you think you’re either giving him or her pieces of yourself, or giving up your entire self. But it’s only an illusion that comes with being vulnerable, letting your guard down, being open—which is important, but the actual you will be always there. It’s that lonely and weak part of ourselves that always wants to attach itself to something or someone in order to feel complete, and we get used to the feeling, and it’s the fear of loss that makes us hold on— only the strong ones are able to let go. But no one will ever make you complete. They can provide you with strength or courage, or help lead you on your way, but after everything is said and done, only you can fill in the gap yourself.
