The Wolf Pack
It’s funny how something can seem so much like a moment of the past, but then when it resurfaces it’s like time hasn’t even progressed a second. Getting together with two of my oldest and best friends this weekend literally in the middle of nowhere really brought up some old memories of a really happy time in my life. We were missing one, but it almost didn’t seem that way at points. He surfaced at times in all of us, as he always does, in all his best ways too. We played a hilarious game we called WWTD for “What Would Tom Do?” and kept thinking up hilarious scenarios for him to be a part of. I think the funniest one we came up with was “what would Tom do if he was gay?” The scenarios got crazier and crazier as more alcohol was consumed. As the night was nearing it’s end, somehow, amongst all the chaos, we managed to be lying down on the floor and not get trampled. I was kind of lying on top of the two of them, as a joke, but then I just didn’t move. We were kind of poking fun at each other when we ran out of things to say and just got really quiet. Then this happened:
Drummer Boy: “I miss him you know.” Me: “I know. Me too.” Mike: “It’s really hard sometimes.” Me: “Tell me about it.” DB: “I know the feeling.” Mike: “Do you think we could have stopped him?” Me: “I don’t know.” DB: “LJ he really loved you, you know?” Me: “I know.” Mike: “Like LJ he reallllly loved you.” Me: “I know. He really loved you guys too. You meant a lot to him.” They both laughed a little and then said, pretty much at the same time: “You meant way more.”
It was so nice to have the two of them so close to me again, and at the same time. Drummer Boy has been working his career to the max, and doing an amazing job! His band is releasing their second full length album soon and I couldn’t be more proud. But that means he’s hardly ever back home, and by the odd chance that he is, Mike is never around at the same time. This was the first time in three years that the three of us have been all together. Even so, it was like no time had passed. Here’s hoping it’s not another three years until we can all get together again.
Me: my friends nag at me to get [an annual pass to Disneyland] and I'm just like "I'm sorry, but I think I heard the sound of my wallet committing seppuku"
Kip: your wallet actually just crumples up and disintegrates from such a notion.
Me: no, it literally takes one of the gift cards I have in my wallet and stabs itself with it then my driver's license cuts out the stitching on my wallet so it falls apart
Me: At least I'm pretty sure that's how a wallet would commit seppuku
Kip: that's completely legitimate wallet seppuku.
