Affirmation Life is a struggle for joy all along the way. May I fight to win the battle on the very spot where I now am. Always Be Joyous For That Is Your Nature One day Guruji said to me: “Always be joyous, for that is your nature.” I dwelled on everything he said to me, not for just an hour, but I lived with the idea so that it became part of my thinking: “Joyous, I must always be joyous - how, when my mind is full of worries about the problems of my many responsibilities?” Subsequently Master said to me: “No one can make you happy if you choose to be unhappy.” Then I understood: It begins with practicing evenmindedness. Krishna spoke of this when he said to Arjuna, “Be thou of even mind.”* When you struggle for evenmindedness, you are resisting the law of duality with its disruptive opposites. By practicing evenmindedness, and by deep meditation, your mind becomes anchored in Him who is without change. You come to a state of perfect inner joy that is neither disturbed by adversity nor emotionally excited by good fortune. *”O Flower among Men (Arjuna)! He who cannot be ruffled by these (contacts of the senses with their objects), who is calm and evenminded during pain and pleasure, he alone is fit to attain everlastingness!” (God Talks With Arjuna: The Bhagavad Gita II:15). -Paramahansa Yogananda, Self-Realization Magazine Summer 2018 p 31; Affirmation, Metaphysical Meditations p 22.
