Welcome to @withnail-and-i-fanwork-week, a fandom event for 'Withnail & I' (1987). This year (2026) is the first year of the event. If all goes well, I hope it continues into the future!
The event will last a week, from 27th September - 3rd October (ending on the 90th day before the end of the year). There will be an overarching theme for the week, with individual prompts for each day.
FAQ:
What types of fanwork can be made for this event?
Any you like! Fanfics, fanart, podfics, moodboards/aesthetics, AMVs/edits, something entirely different, whatever, as long as it fits into the prompt and the overall event.
What content can be contained within the fanworks?
For Tumblr: Anything that follows Tumblr's Terms of Service.
For the AO3 collection: Anything that's allowed on AO3, basically. Any ratings, any warnings, any 'dark content'—all are allowed, as long as they fit into AO3's Terms of Service.
Are crossovers with other fandoms/events/collections allowed?
In theory, yes. I'm not sure if AO3 allows you to put works in multiple collections, but if you can, feel free to!
For other fandoms, crossovers are allowed. However, I'd encourage people to not write crossovers with Harry Potter or other JK Rowling works, due to my own (and many other people's) justified discomfort around those works and fandoms.
How can I make my work accessible?
For Tumblr: I'd encourage you to include alt text/descriptions for any non-written fanworks in your original post. If you're unable to, I'll reblog with a description to the best of my ability, but it's always better if the original post is accessible (and also, I'm a different person, so what I consider important info to describe might not be the same as yours).
For the collection: AO3 has the capability to put alt text onto images for screen readers, so if your work contains physical image elements I'd suggest using that. If your work is a podfic or AMV/edit, I'd suggest putting a caption or transcript below the work!
Rules:
No harassment of other fanwork creators, either with the content of fanworks or in the comments.
Fanworks must be relevant to the event and to the year's theme.
AI-created works are discouraged.
