Most of Shiki’s District was more or less safe from the sudden invasion that was now happening all around Hive City. The mysterious inhabitants that co-exist with the human residents of District Alpha are normally harmless, but even them fought back when they were attacked. The combined effort of both, along with the obvious advantage of the terrain, helped them deal with any intruder easily. It didn’t seem like Shiki would get more action if she staid in one place. And it wasn’t her style to maintain a defensive attitude either. Staying motionless when a rare opportunity like this allowed her to continuously use her skills to the maximum (something that the city’s very mechanics prevented her from doing these past few months) would be a huge waste.
Therefore, she left her underground district for the upper levels of the city. She spend some time there, getting a better feel for her eyes, her honed reflexes and her somewhat rusty swordsmanship until she decided she had reached her top condition. This was only a prelude to what she was actually planning to do. And soon enough, she found what she was looking for.
“So this is the portal leading to the other city. I don’t know if this is a parallel world or whatever, but at any rate clues to escape this place might exist there.”
Saying that, she fearlessly strode through the portal to end up in what was supposed to be a different version of the Hive City. The place she was now standing on, barely looked different than where she was but a moment ago, but one could spot one or two differences here and there. Not staying there to admire the foreign scenery, Shiki moved fast. An explosion nearby told her that a battle was taking place. And she was not one to shun away from a fight. Soon enough she reached the origin of the explosion. The smoke there wasn’t enough to hide the gruesome sight of the destroyed bodies that fell victims to it. Probably some kind of bomb.
‘Tsk, the victims are residents from our side. I have no attachment to that place but..’ She still didn’t enjoy seeing people she had passed by on the road reduced to dead bodies. She took a moment to close their eyes, something totally unlike her usual self. Their blood was now covering her hands. ‘Fear not.’ She thought to herself. ‘I’ll kill as many as them as I can.' And with that she moved to leave there. But her road was now blocked. A young man was in the way. A dangerous looking sword on his hand. Enemy? Ally? Shiki didn’t know.
“I don’t know who you are but..either move out of the way, or die.”
