The vial was the one and only taste of sweetness Elba would have in quite some time. As the liquid settled into her stomach and seeped into organs, she lowered the hood of the detailed cloak. Tuning out the chaos of the room, once the vial had caused your vision to go double, was rather easy. She didn’t hear competitors tearing each other to pieces, or other women also being haunted by their mommy issues with deep despair. The anticipation began to kill the werewolf, her heart the only thing she could hear now. It thud rapidly and she was sure it’d been by design. This would be the third time Elba faced Lori-Jane and if all was said and done, the final. “Come on,” she whispered. “Come-”
With another blink of her lids and she was transported to an old, familiar setting. Elba pushed herself up from the air mattress and peeled the privacy curtains back to reveal a darkened cabin. She’d only ever seen the cabin so dark in nightmares, honestly, because when Elba had resided there herself, she was known to carry around flashlights for peace of mind. Suddenly, one appeared in her fist. To face Lori on her own stomping grounds would surely grant a victory of sorts, if not trigger old memories. God, let the price be worth paying.
A brash knock at the front door caught Elba’s attention. It echoed for seconds. In this setting, she was no longer adorned in her angel attired. She wore a flannel too large and jeans. This hallucination was so real, it... it simply couldn’t be a hallucination. She could smell the remanence of dinner and could feel the cool wood on her bare feet. This had been the most impatient the woman had been all night as she put a hand to the door and raked it open. Her mother needed to know she was unafraid to face her time and time again. She’d win. Elba would always manage.
Elba had been so, so terribly wrong. Her family’s bodies still rotted on the doorstep. The Skullglades, all of them. Astoria, Aurelia, and Felicity. She’d never screamed so loud, unable to move. Her eyes remained shut, until the hallucination could disappear.
