A career criminal who has spent 14 Christmases in prison has been spared jail for stealing so he can spend the holidays with his son for the first time.
Peter Roy Everall, 43, of Haslingden, Lancashire, was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, but magistrates agreed to suspend his sentence for 12 months after hearing that he had never spent a Christmas with his 15-year-old son.
