Day 9 - Kathmandu
The alarm went off at 4.45am and we hauled ourselves out of bed and got ready for our 5.15 pickup.
Today was the day for the flight around Everest! We flew with Buddha Air, a small plane that seats about 40 people although they only allow on 20 so that everyone gets a window seat. The flight is just 50 minutes long and everyone gets the opportunity to go in the cockpit to see Everest and take photos.
We were fortunate enough to have a beautiful, sunny, clear day and so the views of the Himalayas were pretty amazing!
We came back to the hotel which only cost about £10 for the night with breakfast included. It was in the perfect location for what we needed but we had no hot water at any point and the pillows had no covers on (unfortunately we didn’t discover this until the morning - they were pretty grim).
We moved from here to the Kasthamandap Boutique Hotel in Thamel, this is about £26 a night but has to be the best room we’ve had so far and the shower is amazing - hot and powerful!!! We were offered tea on arrival and have a fridge, tv, bottled water etc in our room - luxury!
We had a tuna salad and fries for lunch in their restaurant then went out for a walk to get our bearings and visit the Garden of Dreams which is a quiet little oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Thamel.
As both of us were tired and not feeling 100%, after some veggies mo mo’s, we came back to the hotel and had a much needed early night.
