“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” - Isaiah 43:19 NIV This is the Lord telling Israel who He is, what great things He has done and what more He is about to do. (Read through Isaiah 42 & 43.) It’s the first time I’m tasked to preach in the Sunday service, mostly adults, families, and professionals, take note, 9AM! (so much for me who struggles in the morning, minsan, sorry na! 🤭) At first, it was an assignment given to me by senior pastor, when it was actually a God-given assignment. 🤍🥹 I’m comfortable preaching to young people, but not to the people beyond my age. I thought, “I’m too young. They might not believe God’s word if it’s spoken through me.” But every time, napaparepent agad ako because it is as if, I’m questioning GOD’S POWER to work through His very words, not mine. 👊🏻 It was like a punch in the face. ✌🏻 You know what? I get to love His Word even more. I don’t know that much, but I get to savor every thing the Lord reveals in His every words. As I study, I get to process my thoughts and what I’ve been learning, to my co-preachers. I learned from them and I get to do theology with them, too. It was a sermon on missions, but as I wrestle with His word, He pointed me to the most important thing: Who He is? Why can we all put our hope in Him? Establishing what the Scripture say about the ONE who calls us in this Great Mission—to make Him known and bring His hope to the ends of the earth, in every tribe, every nation. God’s word is weighty. We really cannot just take it lightly. And to me, who is comfortable with what’s in my plate, with my current space, I am not to take this weighty call lightly. Indeed, this is a new thing! I may not saw this coming, this new thing He is doing, but now He has already begun! 🥹🙌🏻 P.S. God, help me to rely on Your word, even in every preaching moment. May I always be in joy of preaching Your word to people, in and out of season, in every generation, in every nation! From Burden to Brokenness for My Campus

Just last week, God had impressed a burden in my heart for the campus in my city. I was soo baffled that He gave me a word in Psalm 2:8, "Ask of me and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession."  Through this verse, God was like saying, "Steph, do you want to change the world? Then start it from the campus!" And I was like, "What? Now that I have a secular work?! How could I fully oversee the campus?"  4 days later, I felt that burden again that I had to rally few of my friends to pray with me and intercede. Tears were starting to threaten from my eyes. I tried much to control it as it was both weird and embarrassing to do that with people around in the office.  Fast forward 5 days (which was tonight), I happen to come across with the very prophetic Jim Laffoon's blog in Every Nation website. It was about some of the snippets that could be extracted from the experience of Nehemiah upon seeing the broken walls of Jerusalem, his hometown. And I was struck with these revelations: 1. The same God who laid Jerusalem on Nehemiah’s heart wants to give you a burden for your city (specifically, campus) today.

2. You will never be able to receive a divine burden for your city, though, as long as you continue to insulate yourself from the pain around you. Nehemiah was not burdened for Jerusalem until he heard the reports of its condition; it is no different for you.

3. You must be willing to face the desperate plight of the city to which you have been called.  You will never feel what God feels until you have begun to hear what He hears and see what He sees.

4. Receiving God’s burden for your city, however, is only the beginning of the process. Like Nehemiah, you must progress from being “burdened” for your city to being “broken” over your city. 

5. Whichever case yours may be, this type of brokenness opens your heart afresh to receive the plan God has desired to give you all along. Once you have received His plan, as Nehemiah did, God will give you the exact timing and strategy you will need to see this plan gloriously fulfilled, and your city redeemed from its quagmire.  I could not believe that I was feeling the same for the campus. I could not believe that I just underwent the phase of being BURDENED to being BROKEN. When we started on praying, I asked them to pray first in the Spirit. Lo, tears fell down. Even the next day as I woke up, the burden just kept on being intensified and intensified as I kept on praying. It just wouldn't let me go. It was my first time to experience that kind of emotion. Now I know, that was brokenness. No matter how, I know I could not escape the call of God for my life. After all, it's about the willingness of the heart to submit to that call. Maybe, it's time to put off my concerns such as time, resources (esp that I think I would have to go alone in 3 months time because my friend who is a missionary would go back to her hometown), the ability. I know I could not put God in a box. I just have to submit and be sensitive of the Holy Spirit's leading and the rest is up to Him.
