I don’t think I will ever be able to not like William Finn’s music because how is:

Look at Marvin take a shower

Not only a BOP but also actually a song about immense guilt over your identity and actions and desires AND an exploration of how that guilt can affect you when you’re in the shower and feel vulnerable for once
#Marvin takes a victory shower#someone please ask me to dissect this song 🙏#william finn#adore all of that man’s music#he’s so good at taking mundane#typical#everyday shit#and exploring it in a way that’s very accurate and familiar#but deeper than most people would normally look#ESPECIALLY with things like Spelling Bee#The Chess Game#I mean to a lesser degree And They’re Off#like obviously that’s a shitty situation and you don’t have to go that deep to recognize that#but the way it’s executed#focuses on the smaller stuff that tends to affect you more in the long run#lines like#“plus they discussed the weather”#“the band starts to play as the horses go round”#“people loose money AND have fun”#just good shit#the way he explores such mundane stories in such a human way#it just has a touch of reality that I don’t see out of a lot of other shows or composers#so so brilliant#I’d love to do one of his shows one day#falsettos#marvin trilogy#in trousers
