Emotions are not a debate; nor do we need them to be
Emotions are not a debate, but it is nice to be able to talk about them This is a short piece, and an obviously true point, but it's something I think more people forget. I think we've all heard "Why do you feel that way" before, and sometimes is an innocent question from a friend hoping to cheer you up but other times it's people being critical, treating joy or sorrow as something that can be debated. Sometimes we are happy and we can say "I met my best friend" or "I just got ice cream" but sometimes we feel something, and we don't know why, we are just up, or down, and that's ok too, we don't need to explain it. Next time someone challenged your feelings, as if they are wrong, just remind them that feelings aren't facts, and they need to chill and stop the constant desire to practice their debating skills, but if they still want to have an in depth conversation about if it's right to feel a certain way, or if you can discuss it, they can go pick up Socrates, he's got that bit covered so we don't have to. If they do that, then, if anything it's a discussion on thoughts not an attack on our emotions. Everyday justice is a kind of philosophy really, an emotional kind. The idea that discussing our feelings is good, and if we want to justify them, we can, but em don't have to. This doesn't stop science, or politics, or anything else in the world, it does t drain health care resources or remove people's education, it just lets us, in our spare time, say how we feel, and talk about things that worry us. It's a philosophy that doesn't allow for cruelness or fanatical debates on every topic as we seem to need in the west, but that doesn't stop debates when they are useful. I want this place to be a haven for all people who need to share when they are worried or down because it's safe, because people can't jibe or complain or question, they can just read, and decide for themselves if the story they just read is relevant to them, and if it is, great we just helped someone, of not, then it's not then perhaps it's more useful for them to post their own. I hope to see lots of support for everyday justice in the he future, and I want to see it help all of its supporters. Http://igg.me/at/everydayjustice
