#everydayonceadaygiveyourselfapresent: I got my copy of #ElectricDirt from @queerappalachia last week and I’m just blown away. I just spent 3 months working on a piece about queer Midwestern-transplant food identity (details soon*), and one of the things I thought lot about was how SW Ohio culture is basically “we’re NOT Kentucky” (we’re literally a 20 minute drive and our airport is there?). There’s a ton of classism, especially in the affluent parts of my hometown that all gets focused on “the South,” including accent policing and sweeping our own racism under the rug because we think the Civil War absolves us (it doesn’t). Electric Dirt and @queerappalachia have made me feel more connected to my actual family (especially my late grandparents, originally from rural Kentucky) as well as my queer sibs from other cribs to the south and the east. The work y’all do is incredible and I can’t wait to see what you do next.
