This is probably the 1st bookish discussion I have posted ever. AHAHAH!
Aside from time, fear of not having forever to finish our growing TBR list and poor eyesight, one of the biggest “obstacles” I have faced as a reader is this hell called reading slump. It just sucks. Unable to read a single book for days because for some reasons, you’re not feeling it, or perhaps you’re stuck in reading the last book you devoured over and over again because you just can’t let go of the characters. Feeling like you can’t connect with the characters is also one of the reasons that you can’t even bear to read. Well, whatever reasons you have, whatever feels you feel (yep, I guess that sounds wrong), reading slump sure sucks.
Here I am, writing a post about reading slump because that’s what I’m experiencing right now. And it’s terrible. I’m going to share you the things I do whenever this thing happens.
*take a break, take a kit-kat
- I just take a break from reading. Like, I won’t read for a week or so until I miss reading, until I’m ready to read again.
*re-reading the last book I have read
- I do this if and only if I love the last book I have read. I’m going back the very first page and re-live it because I can’t and I’m not ready to let go of the characters just yet. There are some authors that will automatically drive me into a reading coma. Kandi Steiner was just added on the list. Her duet What He Doesn’t Know is so perfect and I’m not ready to let go of the duet yet. And yep, I’m reading the last few chapters of What He Always Knew over and over again.
I’ll just stop when I feel like I need a new book already—but I still reread some parts of my favorite books—or when I’m already ready to let it go because I know these characters will hold a very special place in my heart.
*And lastly, I read books by my favorite authors.
- It could be a reread or a new one. Whenever I feel like my current read bores me or if I’m not feeling it, I put them in my to-be-continued shelf and read a book by my favorite author.
So, that’s it bookworms. That’s what I do whenever I experience reading slump. They are not 100% effective and there are also times that I probably need a break from reading (which rarely happens), which sucks but totally fine. No pressure, really. You’ll always go back to reading, always. And your massive TBR shelf will be waiting for you until you get your reading mojo back.
Feel free to share the things that you do to deal with reading slump. Send me a message. :*
Happy reading!
❤, JL
