1. What was your favorite book when you were in middle school? Do you still love it now?

probably something from the pern series, and while i haven't reread them since middle school i've heard enough in the ensuing 25 years that i really don't want to go back and revisit it.  I'll take it on faith that it's an entirely problematic former fave and spare pre-teen m*th current-me's disapproval.

2. What TV show/Book/Movie do you secretly love even though your friends don’t agree?

nothing that i'm aware of.  It's mostly the other way around, the sort of thing where i sort of grit my teeth when people mention how excited they are for whatever new dr. who episode is out.

3. Do you get along with little kids?

i do pretty well with kids ages 3-10 or so for short periods of time.

4. What did you like best about the winter holidays this time around (whichever holidays you celebrate)?

food was pretty awesome this year.  (and i got games i've really been looking forward to, so that was great.)

5. Do you like to dance?

informal dancing: no. when i was a very small m*th i had ballerina aspirations, and around the time i was in college i enjoyed ballroom, but now i'm just not into it.

6. If you could choose one food from a fictional world to taste, what would it be?

drawing a huge blank because right now the only fictional worlds i can think of that have foods that are not available in this one are middle earth with its lembas and whatnot and #homestuck with the things the kids alchemized.  Neither of which i'm particularly interested in trying.  (I know the potterverse has all sorts of wizard food, but i've neither read the books nor seen the movies, so i'm not counting it.)

7. What is your wildest fantasy of a dream job?

Being a curator at Bishop Museum would be sweet. even better would be a curator of new media and/or performance art, but if i remember correctly Honolulu doesn't have an art museum, let alone a modern and/or contemporary art museum.  I suppose UH's Manoa campus might have a gallery or art museum of some sort. :-|a

8. What’s your favorite kind of game to play?

9. If you could create a perfect space to read in, what would it be like?

secluded, warm, cozy, and mostly bed-like, except with enough back support to be able to comfortably sit up straight if desired.  just big enough for me, blankets/pillows, books, and a small miniature-kitchen (i.e. mini-fridge, electric kettle,and toaster oven) for hot and cool snacks.  Well-insulated window with a pretty view nice, but not absolutely necessary.

10. What superpower would you most like to have?

self-healing would be all kinds of amazing.  healing others would also be neat, albeit way more complicated.

11. Would you rather have a risky adventure or be comfortable and safe?

comfortable *and* safe? not even a question.   (this m*th has no stomach for risk.)

But here's the thing: I am 40, so this is going to sound like gibberish half the time.

1. What was your favorite book when you were in middle school? Do you still love it now? I read James Michener's The Source about then, I think, and I adored it. Archeology, history told like epic fiction, giant fat book -- it was glorious. Still have a fondness for Michener, definitely.

2. What TV show/Book/Movie do you secretly love even though your friends don’t agree?

It was Vampire Diaries until season 4, but things have spiraled on that show so far from what I loved (about the characters and the relationships) that I'm not really interested in it anymore. Sad how things change...

3. Do you get along with little kids?

Mostly, yup. Not great with babies, but once they can talk and be reasoned with (and enjoy creativity) I'm good.

4. What did you like best about the winter holidays this time around (whichever holidays you celebrate)? Honestly, this round of holidays was kind of shit. Couldn't get my head together. My daughter is six and she discovered video games with the help of my husband -- I can't play video games, turns out; they piss me off, just go from "what is this?" to RAGE. Oh, but you were asking what was best about them? Hmmm. Much Ado About Nothing (Whedon) on DVD.

5. Do you like to dance? Yup!

6. If you could choose one food from a fictional world to taste, what would it be? There's fictional food? (Oh, well, Rowling... but that was always a little dicey to try....)

7. What is your wildest fantasy of a dream job?

My dear, I've got it: freelance musician. Luckiest woman in the world.

8. What’s your favorite kind of game to play?

Cards Against Humanity, anything that devolves into cry-laughing...

9. If you could create a perfect space to read in, what would it be like?

(I adore this question.) A little nook, with a large window on one wall, on the top floor of a house tucked into a forest. The nook's floor is a fluffy mattress, strewn with blankets and pillows; the walls are lined with bookshelves, packed with books. Totally silent. Door that locks. Tea magically appears when desired.

10. What superpower would you most like to have?

The ability to take away pain and suffering, or make food out of thin air, or turn garbage into fuel. And flying, because duh.

11. Would you rather have a risky adventure or be comfortable and safe?

Oh yeah, comfortable and safe. I am a princess, after all: puh-LEASE.

Thanks, Pitchfork! First try here… I used a tea light instead of a straight led to simplify things. Unfortunately the foil tape I got is covered in 3M logos on the non-sticky side, so I need to work on that.

Hi Moth, 

I was already following you, but I backread some of your blog again so I could write this.  Originally, I followed you because you posted the Glitch essences, which are super awesome.  I also really like the emblems you've made. I admire your passion and enthusiasm, particularly your 'unbridled squee' tag.  

I'm really floored by how much you care about other people and about the world.  You're the first person to send me an ask wanting to know if there's anything I'd like tagged when I followed you.  (There isn't, by the way.)  In the tags on the "No Dogs Allowed Beyond This Point" photo you're concerned about the comfort and well-being of hypothetical shorebirds.  You care about, and talk about, intersectionality and a lot of different ways of trying to make the world a better place for people.  When you blog about your health, it often seems to be more about reassuring others and keeping others informed than about seeking reassurance for yourself.  All of which is to say: I think you're a really exceptionally good person.
