The day was just like any other. In this job the cases were the only thing that really distinguished time for him. It wasn’t days, weeks it was what case they were working. These times in between cases when things were almost slow for a bit didn’t come often. He’d learned to appreciate them for what they were, rest. But just as most things that don’t come often, they don’t stay long.
Dr. Reid walked into the bullpen with a light smile on his face. He never slept much, on account of work and his overactive brain but today he had gotten a whole extra hour. He walked past the desks of quietly working agents and set down his cup of sugar filled coffee at his desk. His desk was interesting in its own, You can always tell so much about a person from their desk, he was organized for the most part, not a single pen out of place. He looked over to the desk of his neighbor, Elle who of course was already there. He gave her a small nod and a quiet hello as he sat down, his bag dropped over the back of his chair.
He talked to the people around him lightly, smiling softly as he multitasked, pen scribbling over paperwork as he talked about the book he was reading and language he was now learning, delighting in his coworkers wanting to hear about his life. He only paused when a package, a large full envelope landed on his desk with a soft thud, the usual mail delivery intern bringing it by. He rolled away from the people he was talking to without other word. It wasn’t from anyone he knew. It wasn’t something he’d ordered. He looked over it curiously, a small seal in the corner, pressed, nothing too suspicious, until he opened it of course.
Inside was a small book of poetry that he had enjoyed a while ago. That alone was enough to make his brow furrow but it was the inside that made him drop the book as though it was red hot in his hands. Pictures, of him, only half a dozen. Half were from surveillance but the others were developed form some kind of disposable, each tucked into the pages of poems he knew he had book marked back in his apartment.
