hi i wanted to let you know that i looove your gifs!! i hope you wouldn't mind if i asked you how do make your gifs so "clean"? is it sharpening? i try to sharpen but nothing works even tho i download only HD stuff. do you sharpen before reducing the size and/or adding your psd or before? i seriously try my best and i always end up mad lmao hope you're having a nice day!

i hope you don’t mind me publishing this message instead of answering privately (maybe other people will find my advice useful).

downsizing goes before sharpening (the method i use is described here x; sometimes i reduce “amount” so that a gif doesn’t look too sharp). then i apply layers (here x is my psd pack). saving settings can mess up your image too. i think those settings here x are the most commonly used (scroll down to the last step of the tutorial). distortion is usually a result of a badly adjusted psd. it’s also possible that a gif itself is kinda “meant to” lose quality during editing, despite it being created from a 720p/1080p clip. for example, changing shadows are a known grain-inducer. if it occurs, i often use layer masks on layers increasing contrast, and paint over shadowy places so that grain is reduced.
