This is an evil!Kai au, and takes place during Possession.

When Morro and Kai were alone in Stixx, Kai managed to make him an offer before he learned Airjitzu; Leave Lloyd's body and possess him instead. He promised not to fight him, and Morro - who had already grown annoyed at Lloyd - took the offer.

While sharing a mind and body with him, Kai learned just how much he had in common with Morro. When he got the chance, Morro took this as an opportunity to truly get Kai to switch sides by feeding on that want to be the Green Ninja. Fortunately for him, Kai wasn't that hard to sway, and soon Morro had access to both wind and fire, since Kai was more willing to work with him.

Morro actually would leave Kai's body to talk to him whenever they were alone - this is where the romantic stuff started to spawn. Kai made Morro laugh while helping him get used to modern technology (which both of them do not like), and Morro made Kai feel validated for all his feelings of frustration and anger. They're both dirty enablers, but they love it.

Kai does not regret leaving the team. Hurting them? Absolutely, but he wants to be the Green Ninja, and so does Morro. Just as wind feeds a fire, Morro feeds Kai's darker side and makes him stronger. Together, they will be the most powerful duo in all of Ninjago.

Their first kiss was after they retrieved the Realm Crystal, in Stixx. Morro told Kai that they truly were a perfect match, and that he was glad to have him. Kai promised to never leave his side, and that's when they finally made it official.
