Started watching Evil Lives Here while doing art, and I'm honestly wondering how many of these episodes boil down to "Wow, you were shitty and abusive parents that fucked your kid up, but you're saying they're the monster. Interesting."

Watching Evil Lives here and every episode basically goes like this

Relative: Oh he was such a sweet kid, so loving and thoughtful

…but there were signs

Relative: One time he tried to stab me in my sleep , but I never would have thought he’d do something like this

Watching "Evil Lives Here" on Max (it's all about people talking about living with "evil" folks, like abusers and murderers and serial killers) and this one episode has a cop talking about his younger brother, and all I'm hearing is a rigid Christian zealot cop being authoritarian towards a young man who very likely has untreated schizophrenia. And he punches his younger brother and rips up his brother's sketchbook and plays with his brother's guitar and all I'm hearing is some poor young man who needs mental health treatment and would like his property to be respected dealing with a bully of a big brother. It's tragic. Like, if the guy had gotten some help, maybe he wouldn't have ended up killing five people.

It's a tragedy.
