Why I No Longer Support DSP and His Current Endeavors Part 1
For this part I will discuss mainly my history with DSP and what I feel about his response to the MGS videos made by Evilaj2010. For the next part I will discuss everything else that made me truly unsub from DSP. Sorry for splitting this post into two parts but sitting down and typing out a single post is tiring and would make this post a little too long.
Now first off let me say this, I am still subscribed to DSP's darksydephil channel, his THEKINGOFHATEHD channel, his DSPStreetFighter (however I will change this if it turns out he still makes money off of this channel, however I really do like the videos on this channel), his RedDeadDSP channel, and his DarksydePhilFFXIII channel.
I'd first like to start this off with how I found DSP himself. In 2010 I had watched a playthrough of Heavy Rain and was looking for a playthrough of the DLC for it name 'The Taxidermist'. As you may have guessed it was DSP's playthrough of it on his darksydephil channel. Soon after that I became a huge fan and followed him for a while. However around the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012 I started to feel as though the quality of DSP's videos began was waning. I felt as though he was putting up so many videos that he no longer cared about how the videos actually turned out. Eventually my enjoyment of his videos soon declined and I found myself not really watching his videos anymore besides a special video or two. However around the beginning of 2013 when he moved to direct capture I began to watch his videos again.
However, a month after he adopted direct capture was around the time that I wrote the original post about DSP and his MGS2 & 3 playthroughs. As said before I did not realize what was happening beyond the controversy about the MGS playthroughs. The beginning of my suspicions about DSP being a douchbag really began when in his Ask the King on 5-30-13 where he addressed the controversy over his MGS playthroughs and Evilaj2010's videos about them. Well lets just say that this video wasn't well received at all.
To begin with addressing his response to the MGS videos is rather difficult. It's difficult because it's hard not to punch the monitor with the lack of thought and stupidity in this response. However, as I am a tough guy (not really) I will try to do so. First off he insinuates that the reason we truly care about his playthrough is that he was terrible at the game. He says that he doesn't care about doing well in single-player games such as Dark Souls or MGS. Well some might say that that's reasonable and understandable. Here's the problem, it's not just that he played horribly. It's not just that he played horribly and recorded it and put it on Youtube. It's not that he played horrible and recorded it and put it on Youtube AND made money off of it. It's that during the playthrough there was very little attempt to improve AND he actually insulted the developer Hideo Kojima. Not only did he do terrible, he insulted the game, the developers, and our collective intellects. There is no reason why he should have blamed the developers because he didn't press L2 to figure out how to use rations. It was childish and uncalled for.
Now next he says that because he said at the beginning of the playthrough that he had never played the games before, that we have no right to complain about the playthrough. Look, just because he never played the games before, does not mean he has the right to be a complete idiot and INSULT HIDEO KOJIMA AND THE DEVELOPERS. I do not care what you tell me Phil, you had no right to insult Hideo Kojima, nor act in the manner you did.
After that he makes what is in my personally opinion the worst part about this video. He states that Evilaj2010 STOLE his videos and it is illegal for him to make those montages. Now here is why this is disgusting to hear. Before DSP has never had a problem if someone made a POSITIVE montage for him, showing off his funniest moments or making music remixes. So if you make a montage of him in positive light, he's completely okay with it and it's fine. However if you make a montage in a negative light, it's illegal and you stole from him. This is blatant hypocrisy. It's damn near insulting for him to tell me, that I'm stealing his footage unless I'm kissing his ass.
Next Phil says how the videos were malicious and was trying to call him a piece of shit. While the videos weren't exactly the nicest thing, Evilaj2010 did say very much insulting you, in fact most of the insults in the video were people who watched those videos, or in other words, your fans. So yes it was kind of malicious, however it was malicious not because Evilaj2010 truly hated you, it's because you made a terrible playthrough and your fans didn't like it.
The last point I wish to address because I can't take anymore of this shit, is that Evilaj2010 is 'mentally ill' and that Phil is afraid that Evilaj2010 is going to come to his house and kill him. Out of all the responses he could have given, this is pretty pathetic. If it's a joke, then it was a terrible one. Evilaj2010 made that video with the intent to take what was basically garbage and turn it into something hilarious. He took a 19-hour playthrough of you being an asshole at Metal Gear Solid 3 and turned into a 2-hour comedy fest showing your failure. Why would I want to watch 19 hours of you being terrible at the game when I can watch 2 hours of the best moments of you being terrible at the game that are actually funny. He is not mentally ill, he is a person that wanted to make light out of something that was pretty terrible. It is rather extreme that he made a 2-hour video about it, but no where near mentally ill. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he said something like it took him a year to make. If anyone is mentally ill, it's you. Especially after seeing how you couldn't even figure out how to use RATIONS of all things. Do I think this is true? No, who am I to judge who does and doesn't have a mental illness. The point to take from all this is that you can't just accuse someone of being mentally ill, it's childish and unprofessional.
Unfortunately this took me all day to write and as of now I want to put this out. I'll write some more later as to why I truly left DSP in the dust and don't have any plans on coming back in a while. Let's just say that at this point the seed of doubt is starting to sprout and now I'm beginning to search for more incidents of DSP's bullshit.
