Back in my day queerbaiting actually meant the showrunners jerking us around because they were too scared to actually have lgbtq characters. It means something that maybe these people are too young to have context for? But it's not even that long ago it was happening so..... I don't understand the confusion. If you have a character on screen in a same sex relationship that is a very far cry from queerbaiting.
It’s quite a self explanatory term. Baiting the queers with what at least appears to be queer content. But yeah a bait is a trick, the word is defined by the queer content not being real or not being present at all. So how people find it in themselves to keep calling shows with actual queer characters and relationships “queerbait” is blowing my mind. I mean they have Supercorp RIGHT THERE as a great recent example of queerbait (unnecessary as it was because Alex/Sanvers. That’s even worse, they were just toying with a pseudo romantic dynamic because they could, they didn’t even need to bait anyone but that’s what it was).
