“We make relations and we don’t leave it after the wedding gets over, we nurture them.” – Varun Madaan, Vivaah Makers

Varun Madaan runs his dream company called Vivaah Makers along with his sister. He personally loves to explore destinations, believes in an arrangement where he can bring select locations for special celebrations and promotes them has his unique.

We bring an exclusive in conversation with Varun where he talks about his business and shares some insights on the “Monsoon Wedding” he has done in Orange County Coorg, now known as Evolve Back Resort.

WED Tease : Varun, you are known to explore some great locations and destinations for weddings. How do you approach these properties and what is your basic understanding upon interacting with these properties?

Varun: There is no fixed protocol that we follow. But yes, they should have all the ingredients to make a wedding memorable in terms of hospitality, venues, food and a great working environment. When we kind of approach them, initially they are bit hesitant as they have no experience, but when we give them confidence that we’ll work around your restrictions then they are at ease.. so it’s not at all easy, but if you have the right people and mutual trust, then it’s very easy!

WED Tease : Is this your primary business?

Varun : Yes.. it all started with my cousins wedding which me and two of my cousins had planned in Goa. Almost 5yrs back.. Since it was the very first destination wedding in the family everyone was equally excited and happy at the same time, so we had an added pressure. I remember my uncle telling me all the time during the course of the wedding period,all the relatives are spending a bomb on the tickets and coming all the way to Goa, your planning must be top notch! The fact that he had faith in me, I was equally energised and i took that up as a challenge. And the outcome just perfect.. and the whole process didn’t felt like a job, I enjoyed every bit of it. And one day i realised “yehi meri zindagi hai ….”

WED Tease : You have recently done a wedding at Evolve Back Resorts formerly knows as Orange County in Coorg. What made you recommend this destination and property for a wedding?

Varun : Yes, we did a wedding at Orange County, Coorg! The clients were basically looking at a monsoon wedding, and the groom had attended some destination wedding in Goa, which he had great memories of. So he wanted a replica of that. But when we got in touch with him, we were bouncing of ideas to him & that’s when we both decided that we should do something un usual rather than doing the same stuff. Forest wedding may be… and that’s when Orange County came into picture… but the best part of that property is it lies in the middle of 300 acres of coffee plantation which in itself is something incredible.

WED Tease : What was the guest size? and how well the property accommodated with the requirements? Varun : The guest count was 200pax with our team members. We had taken around 40 artists from all over, be it for make up, or choreographers for sangeet practice or pandit for ceremonies then punjabi folk artists were specially called from Punjab to give that punjabi touch & feel to the wedding and above all my team for coordinating the entire event.

WED Tease : What was the exceptional about the property according to you?

Varun : The best part about that property is the uniqueness it gives to the client in terms of the venues, the food and above all the experience. Trust me when I say this I’ve travelled a lot, to many 5 star properties done a lot of weddings, but one of the best experience we have had is working with this property! Initially since they were new to the idea of the wedding as a matter of fact in the last 22yrs, they have never done a wedding, or even a smallest of function. They always declined the request. I don’t know God has a habit of doing miracles when it comes to me, they agreed for it.. and I can’t be more thankful to them.

WED Tease : What time of the year do you feel the weddings at this property is ideal?

Varun : Generally every one warned us that July is not a good season for wedding and that too in Coorg. But since this property is more on the land area not on the hills, rains do occur, but for very limited time period. November to February is the best time to get married, but this property is booked an Year in advance so to get all the villas we need to plan things well in advance, be flexible with the dates.

WED Tease : Your idea of “Steal Deal” packages from properties surely excites any wedding. How do you manage exceptional discounts or is it something given to all?

Varun : I was once told by someone, very early in my career that if at all you are a good negotiator you can atleast sustain any business. But with hotels it’s a different task altogether, we try to negotiate as much as possible.. But we also keep in mind the cost that these properties have, like the running expenses are really high, so we don’t cross that as that would eventually hamper the service, and we can’t really compromise on the quality, that’s what our brand stands for..Negotiations are healthy up to a certain limit & since we give them business back to back, these properties offer us the best packages.

WED Tease : What are the aspects you indulge in?

Varun : We at Vivaah Makers provided end to end service to the clients. From there venue selection, to decor to entertainment to giveaways to logistics to RSVP… at times we end up planning the honeymoon as well.

WED Tease : What is Vivaah Makers unique experience for the clients?

Varun : Our strength lies in the relationship we develop with the clients.. it’s no more like work. Any which ways I don’t take up any random wedding, we look out for something unique in the wedding, at times clients are so open to new venues, sometimes you do it for the couple, because there story touched you, sometimes you’ve been part of the regular weddings every year that by default you have no choice left.. We make relations and we don’t leave it after the wedding gets over, we nurture them!
