Returns, in functions

I've always had some trouble with returns. I'm not sure why, but there's just something about them that spins my mind around. The program in this exercise is nice and clear for me.

age = add(30, 5)

Of course we could do that by just writing:

age = 30 + 5

Or even:

age = 35

But -- we're trying to learn how functions work. So we have a function that says -- blah, blah, blah, lots of stuff, and then at the end, it returns the sum of a and b, whatever those two numbers might be. In this case, the function is named add. The function can do one thing or 100 things, it doesn't matter, but one of its lines somewhere is:

return a + b

That line wouldn't have to include an equation. It could just return a result. But the key is, the global variable age is going to contain that -- whatever is returned.

This is the complete function:

def add(a, b): print "Some stuff, it doesn't matter what" return a + b
