Sisters (and Brothers) in Christ
A husband and wife were reminiscing about their past while eating at the dinner table when suddenly the wife questioned, “why is it that before, you cut the food I cooked for you giving me the larger portion and taking the smaller portion for yourself, yet now you take the big one and give me the small one. Do you not love me anymore?” “No, It’s not like that,” replied the husband. “You have just learnt to cook better.”
Another family/friendships post, so prepare you're hearts and souuuuls. Underlined by the satirical response of the husband, is the ever so mysterious nature and character of women, and this will be my topic for this week.
Thoughts on Women
Women, as well as men, are part of one big family we call the humans. Though very different in thought processes and behaviour, I believe therein lies a similarity, a commonly shared characteristic, that brings humanity to the place of inclusion - both of men and women. And this, my friends, is the power of friendship!
Now before I digress, I actually do need to spend time reflecting my thoughts on women - Yes, they’re good, in fact they are great. I mean, they are the other half of humanity right? Here’s two universal characteristics I’ve found to be in all (if not 99.95%) women:
1. The inbuilt nature of love, ie. motherly love.
Okay so, I believe this is best explained with a personal example. Now, if you don't immediately resonate with why I’m saying this person exemplifies this point, maybe you live in another universe. Okay, now think of Ellie. Now, for those of you who live in the other universe, or may just not have met her, the care she displays for others, and for me (as I can attest to this), is truly incredible and life changing! Little acts of care, like a helping hand, or even major ones like a listening ear and understanding heart, all add up to this emanating aura of motherly love, and I am thankful, really!
2. Talkingg. Talkingggg. Talk. Wait what are we talking about again?
HAHA #shotsfired. It is true, that once a women opens her mouth and starts talking, you're in for the long haul. If you have ever experienced church life with the family, you'd resonate with this: (and yes, this is true :’) )
It’s like that time when a woman went to the doctor asking for help, because she had been arguing so much with her husband and could not handle it anymore, both emotionally and physically, so she asked for a solution. The doctor said, “Okay, here’s what you're going to do. Every time your husband starts getting mad, or argues, drink some water and start swishing it in your mouth.” The woman taking the advice, went home eager to try out this solution, and just as the husband began to argue and become frustrated, the wife took a glass of water and swished the water in her mouth. Surprised beyond belief, the wife recognised the husband calming right down, and they had not argued for weeks. Amazed by this solution, the wife went to the doctors again to thank the doctor, and asked what the secret was. The doctor replied, “The swishing in itself does nothing, it’s your mouth shut.” HAHA :’) I hope that illustrated the talkative nature of women :P Okay, okay, ill end on a good note.
3. Sisters in Christ. (an additional one hehehe)
Okay so what is a sister in Christ? Not only do they exhibit the standard characteristics of motherly love and talkative-ness (is that even a word??) but they bring it to the next level, namely the God-level. Being in a biblical authentic community means both brothers and sisters are there for each other, to care for and listen, and to pray and offer advice; they are there to lift me up and encourage me on my journey with God. Now this specific person to be named and identified, has been especially meaningful to me, her name is Isaac Lee... Jokes. But yes, just as a brother in Christ, so too are sisters in Christ so meaningful and purposeful. I am truly blessed to be in Life Church Castle Hill, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe a special mention here for Fran :P she excels in this area! Reena, you’re awesome too! (thanks for encouraging me today, it really means so much, everything you’ve spoken, so yeah thanks! )
Alright, this was kinda more of a fun post, and I had heeeaaps of fun writing this haha. Okay, for my last words I’d like to say that I truly do cherish my friendships, and if you’ve gotten close enough to me, you’d know how much I truly do appreciate you (by my expression of words; as of lately I’ve recognised I haven't been good with encouragement so I’ve been practicing).
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” - Hebrews 10:24 Deeply imbedded in this is this word consider - it is that feeling of a mother when she holds her new born baby for the first time, observing every little nuance and problem and then also loving, caring, and embracing more than ever. I hope we continue to grow in ‘considering’ each other, and in loving each other - that we grow to become an intentionally authentic and biblical community.
Coolies, Coolies, this was really enjoyable for me to write at least, hope you’ve enjoyed it too! See ya soon~
