I find it interesting, that in a movie that is supposedly anti colonialism and calls out Asgard's past imperialism, it also calls Loki to be at fault and a bad ruler for "letting the nine realms descend into chaos". You know, the nine realms that Asgard violently conquered in acts of imperialism and colonialism.
Hah, you mean Ragnarok? I swear, everything I read about Taika Waititi OUTSIDE of Marvel is so masterful, but that movie was so clunky and squicky to me for so many reasons, and this is definitely one of them. What I continue to have the most beef with are the ableist jokes about psychological trauma (not just with Loki, but also with Thor, with Bruce, even a bit with Valkyrie, turning her alcoholism and unresolved combat trauma into a punchline....) and the way Thor suddenly became a narcissistic bully again when...the whole point of the earlier movies was to afford him a sense of accountability, and a chance to question his own entitlement. Alas! Most Marvel fans see it as the strongest Thor installment and I will continue to scratch my head at that.
There is a post going around, mostly directed at people who didn't like Ragnarok like we are stupid for not seeing it for the "great" movie it is, and I was wondering if you wanted a link to it in case you might want to respond to it (you don't have to)? I want to respond to it myself but I don't think I'm articulating myself well enough and the post just makes me angry the way it is so dismissive of people who had issues with the movie.
//I think I MIGHT pass right now only because I am very very low on emotional and physical resilience and I am proctoring final exams for four different large classes. However if you want me to reblog some posts that I already made addressing some of those points, and you want to link to my meta when you write YOUR reply, and direct this cantankerous OP hither, lol, then that is cool with me.
At this point, people who engage in an all or nothing attitude about any work of creative fiction, made by people, who are inherently flawed and biased no matter how good their intentions may be (and Waititi had some good and some bad intentions, as much as I dislike this particular film), are people that I think are past your or my capacity to …..not “win over,” exactly, but at least ask to reconsider their absolutist stance????
I would in fact tell you and anyone reading this, you are valid and wonderful and it’s okay to dislike a popular work of fiction for making you uncomfortable about genuine real-world issues. It is OKAY to feel the way you feel. And maybe the aggressively nasty post that’s circulating is beneath your energy and time. Maybe you and I shouldn’t be asked to justify ourselves at all <3333
Hugs to you. <3333 thanks for thinking of me.

thank you! I’m already doing really well, bandages off tomorrow!

are you in a position to get on one of the longer lasting birth control options like nexplanon? I'm on my second one of those and never have had issues and basically no periods, just very mild spotting on occasion. I'd be really suspicious of that stuff you were on last month. maybe save the packaging from it just in case. also they seriously regulate birth control pills like that? I mean... it's birth control.
I’m not sure if I have that option where I am, but I’m already planning to ask my doctor about it... in August when I have my next appointment (doctor was on maternity leave early this year and had a huge backlog). In the meantime, I have some of the packaging, but not enough to tell for sure right now, unless they issue me the same kind again; I’ll be on the lookout.
And yeah, I live in the midwest and my state isn’t great about things like that; this particular thing is, if I recall correctly, basically conservative anti-BC bullshit that’s regulating BC in order to regulate its users. Yay, team USA!
I consider you to be my hero and someone I look towards when I need to muster some inner strength -something your muse needs to hear-
