Exemplar: Forecast Bottles

Forecast Bottles - Ishii Hiroshi The forecast bottles incorporate interface design and everyday objects, as glass bottles are used as the 'containers' and controls for music/audio recordings. This interaction design is quite interesting as it is quite a different direction to mainstream interaction design and this directions enables tangible and symbolic meaning to be integrated into the users experience. The design uses a strong conceptual model of the bottles 'containing' the audio. When each bottle is unsealed the music assigned to that particular container is 'released' into the environment and can be layered with other audio by opening a variety of containers. When the bottle is resealed the sound is 'recaptured' and symbolically stored within the bottler for later use. The original design was used as a weather forecaster which retried the daily forecast from the internet and converted it into a symbolic sound, such as a bird chirping for a sunny day.  this method is a very unique medium of weather forecasting however I think its simplicity, accessibility and interaction are all very appropriate for the target user of elderly citizens.
