For anyone who was worrying - the second sock was finished on time. The pattern was not; I may have typed that bad boy up a few days late, but the sock, at least, was finished.
It was close to the deadline, I’ll admit, but not really through choice. A particularly ergonomically-challenged task at work meant I had to rest up my shoulder and wrists for a few days towards the end. I didn’t, (of course I didn’t) but I did slow down and try to find some other things to scratch the craft-itch where I could, and I’ve taken a few days rest now and redesigned my workstation so hopefully things should settle down.
I think may main problem, in addition to my work desk and binder being horrendous for my posture, is that I’ve done so much knitting recently in one particular gauge. Normally I’d swap between Fingering, DK and Aran, and throw a bit of crochet in there for some variance. Now I’m spending 20 hours a month holding exactly the same size thing and moving in exactly the same way.
So I guess my main lessons learnt from June:
1) It’s ok to complain to Health & Safety about your work literally causing you pain - it’s kind of their job to sort it out.
2) Take it easy on yourself, physically and emotionally. If something hurts, stop doing it. If you don’t, someone with a medical degree might make you stop doing it for even longer.
3) Even if something is really fun, doing it too much probably isn’t a good idea. This applies to many things.
