We can shoot the sad stuff about how bad everything in Echo is, or we can go against the grain and be happy. I say, let's be really happy.

So I know it's been awhile since I updated my Leo obsession but I have a big update!! I got a pillow of him, and an official print of Chase and Leo from the (relatively) recent repress!! (´∩。• ᵕ •。∩`)
So I got my Leo pillow a couple months back from a custom pillow website and I'm absolutely OBSESSED with it!! (≧▽≦)
It's so nice to cuddle with him all the time and hold him close <3 >.<!!

"Echo": Flynn and Confrontation
(So, I’ve actually had a Leo analysis done for months now, but have not had the time or energy to find the screenshots to back up my points. I still have plenty of things to say about “Echo” though, so here’s a “short” rant I sent a friend, edited slightly, that I didn’t feel needed “proof” in the same way my other posts do. Let me know what you think, your thoughts, and what you agree, disagree, or just have your own thoughts on)
For Reasons (tm) I've been relating extra hard to Flynn this week and thinking about the whole blow up with the friend group at the river. To me, part of what is notable is I don't think they're actually mad at what he said, but the fact that he said it at all (and how he said it). In fact, I think at least one person in the group agrees with each thing he said.
For what Flynn said about Carl, we know from Carl's route that Jenna has similar feelings about him, TJ isn't malicious enough to but does call him out during his own route, and you have the option as Chase to tell Carl he needs to get his act together during his route (Leo is more up in the air and like he could go either way).
Jenna (and to a lesser extent Chase) both feel like Leo isn't in a healthy place about his relationship with Chase (Chase's feelings are kind of moderated by being partially to blame), and Carl doesn't really seem to have an opinion but comments that Leo has been off (TJ doesn't seem to notice).
While no one really agrees with Flynn's comment's on Chase (which are honestly the weakest part of that whole blow up, to me anyways), they all comment that Chase has changed since he was younger, though they mostly view that as neutral to positive (Flynn is more aware of the Samulation and that something is off with Chase, due to both his family connection and familiarity with Sydney though, so that's not surprising).
His comments about Jenna are more complicated, because while Leo (and to a lesser extent Carl) probably agree that Jenna left them behind and feels superior, Chase either is neutral or agrees but thinks it a good thing (and TJ doesn't see the problem), but they all agree Flynn has stepped well over the line (which he has).
As for TJ, both Chase and Carl express doubts about his story of what happened to Sydney, and while Jenna and Leo don't, they both seem to fall on the "it would be rude to pry into his trauma" side of things (and Leo's general attitude of both feeling like it was his fault and not wanting to talk about it).
The “actual” problem isn't his comments, but that he's breaking the unspoken agreement they all have to not disturb the peace. Leo, Jenna, and TJ even say as much, with TJ commenting about how he had to go and say those things, ruining the trip. They all know that this is probably going to be the last time they're all together, and they've all decided to try and go out on a high note, leaving the past buried (again, I think Chase, Leo and Jenna all say as much). But Flynn recognizes that this is the last chance he's ever going to have to get the truth out of TJ (who no longer has family in Echo and no reason to come back) and decides that he can't let the past stay dead and buried. And I think it’s notable that we never get any comments or hints about him trying to find out what happened from TJ before this. Sure, Chase comments that Flynn always seemed to doubt TJ and think he was hiding something, but none of the side stories or Route 65 imply that he ever confronted him about it or made a big deal about it. In fact, there were a couple of months after Carl, Chase, and Jenna all went off to college where it was just Flynn, TJ, and Leo (who was implied to be withdrawing himself from everyone) in town, and no indication that Flynn tried to confront TJ or try to pry the truth out of him. It's only when presented with his last chance to find out what happened to Sydney that Flynn explodes. (My guess is the writers just didn't think about or care about this couple of month span, but it exists, so I'm going to pretend it's significant).
That's not to say what Flynn said was right or didn't cross a line, but that the specific issue everyone else has is the confrontation itself. They view the problem as the conversation they are currently having (and Flynn's behavior), and not the fact that there are all of these unsaid things that have been festering for over a decade that Flynn is trying to confront (albeit, in the worst possible way) and each route is about addressing the exact issues he raised, showing that it was impossible for them to all continue with everything that was left unspoken and unaddressed between them. The constant refrain (especially in TJ's route) that "this town needs secrets" even underscores that maybe Flynn was onto something (again, in the worst possible way). That's why the three "good" endings, all end with people opening up and confronting their past and issues. Carl has to confront his issues (and the fact that he's not confident enough to be confrontational), Jenna has to confront her past and the fact that Echo (or at least the people) has some good (and only because Chase pushes back against her hatred of the town and its people), and Leo's route literally ends with Chase having to choose between being confrontational or pushing off the same uncomfortable conversation he's been putting off for three years.
I'm not sure I have a greater point as it pertains to Echo, but I do think that many people have a fear of confrontation which leads to things going unsaid and festering, in the fear that if we say something it will break things (or just isn't "appropriate"), and I implore everyone to try and view confrontation as not a negative thing that should be avoided, but as sometimes necessary to put the past to rest and to move on as better people.
(And if you liked, or hated, this, and haven't already done so, please check out my other "Echo" analyses. I'm pretty proud of them.)
