hmm…ME
May 6th
If I'm honest, I'm not sure why I'm posting this. Probably because I'm looking back and remembering how it felt on those first 3 - but not nostalgically. I don't feel any sense of loss. It was a full cycle, nothing broken; we were strangers, then friends, then we were in love, then we loved each other, and now we're almost strangers again. I'm lucky, in more than one way: to have had something so strong, for a long time, but also that I feel complete about it, and have no desire to rekindle or recapture any aspect of that relationship. I don't miss him. It's hard to miss someone when you see that their faults - in relation to you - are much greater than you once thought.
The last May 6th was different, you see. I thought I was happy, but in reality it was subdued, and it was like any other day. No special efforts were made, really - I don't think we even celebrated with a meal, and I didn't see him on the day apart from at school. For a time, all I could think of would be Ben, on a 6th, but that soon passed. But I don't feel like I should ignore today.
I'm doing several things:
- reflecting on how unhappy I was
- rejoicing in the fact that I'm my own person again
- pleased with my new relationship and the fact that I'm still allowed/allowing myself to be independent and my own person, as well as totally myself, rather than conforming to please
- appreciating how happy I am - through my own doing, but also the actions of others. Thank you :)
So, to conclude I suppose I should say that sometimes, what you once anticipated to be the worst event possible - something inconceivable, actually - can be a true blessing. I'm happier now than I've been in a very long time - probably 5 years, if not 7 - for many reasons. I hope he can reflect on us in the same way. I hope he's happy, but I'm so, so glad he's nothing to do with me anymore.
