If you have any, are there previews for next chapter of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? Helly pointed me to your fic as her reccomendation. :)
Oh gosh, this message has been sitting in my inbox for a loooong while. A thousand sorries, Nonny! I do indeed have a preview for Chapter 22: (Not Quite the) Main Event II, to make up for the wait. (Thankies, @hell-on-training-wheels, for making the rec!)
For context, this chapter follows directly after Smoke gets chowed out by Kitana about being rude to Hanzo, Liu Kang and Reptile have themselves a salty exchange, Raiden rethinks his life choices, and Kitana makes that statement about Ko-Ko (allegedly, supposedly, apparently, probably) cavorting with one Kytinn queen ...
*~*~*~*~*
A deathly hush descended upon the dining room, drowning out the last piercing notes of Kitana’s declaration.
From the guests at the table and the musicians on their platform, to the student monks in the kitchen and the Lin Kuei warriors stationed in and around the Sky Temple, everybody was absolutely still. Their faces bore eyes as wide as marble plates, and mouths that ranged from slightly agape to Munchian levels of agog as their jaws looked ready to fall to the floor. Faint wisps of steam from the food, which was beginning to cool down, brushed against the guests’ cheeks like the hands of needy infants, but they were ignored.
For a moment, not a single statuary in Earthrealm could compare to this motley tableau.
Suddenly, the silence was broken by Johnny Cage, who recovered first from his stupor and sounded incredulous beyond belief as he cried out: “Wha-ha-ha-haaat?! You, Emperor … and D’Vorah … as in bug-lady D’Vorah … were a thing? Like, an actual item?”
All eyes followed the actor’s gaze: sitting uncomfortably straight in his chair, Kotal Kahn was reminiscent of a petrified goldfish. His olive skin was now a brilliant red colour, his mouth gaped open, and his eyes bulged out of their sockets, to the point that they looked ready to roll out of his skull.
If the Earthrealmers who had worshipped him as their god many years ago could see him now, they would have scarcely believed that he was Buluc Chabtan, almighty and everlasting.
No. They would have thought him a mere mortal, meek and helpless.
*~*~*~*~*
That’s all I got for you, Nonny. Of course, it’s all subject to change, but I can definitely tell you that Ko-Ko’s woes are far from over. Meanwhile, Erron who may or may not be drunk is no help whatsoever, Sonya is this close to destroying Johnny, and Smoke is not done with Hanzo just yet ...
