How did one actually go about talking to their child? Miriel couldn’t fathom how the other Shepherds were so familiar with these people who were so, well, unfamiliar to them.

That’s what the mage was here for, though, with an ancient tome tucked carefully under one arm. It was something she’d found buried deep in a pile of old texts, likely dumped there when it’s original owner realized how difficult it was to comprehend. Now, however, Miriel was hoping that it would just provide a premise with which she could speak to her son.

“Laurent?” she began, approaching the table in the mess tent that he was currently occupying. “I was hoping to get your input on this tome I found. I thought you might know something of what it contained, as perhaps in your future it engendered some sort of investigation into what it contained, but...” She hesitated, then added, “If you are not otherwise occupied, of course.”
