When Mondo is under a terrible amount of pressure and frustration has built, he can have a tendency to lash out–just as he can be triggered by certain conversation topics, depending on the state of his mental illnesses. It’s doubtful he will ever again be under the same amount of pressure a locked school and murder game can put someone under, especially when he’s buried beneath remorse and the emptiness that follows a shattered promise, but…
I’m not trying to excuse his temper and how he can lash out, mind, but it is a learnt behaviour. Daiya loved Mondo an incredible amount, no one can argue that, but he was a teenager and young adult trying to raise a child when he wasn’t equipped for the task at hand. He had very strong, very particular ideas on how Mondo had to act, how he had to be, and Mondo doesn’t naturally line up with these. On top of that, childish antics can be frustrating sometimes.
If Daiya can tell his younger brother to “be quiet Mondo, at least be silent while we’re walking,” just because he doesn’t want Mondo to speak casually and risk saying something unmanly where others can hear, then he is certainly the type of young man who could lose his temper and strike a child who’d rather eat cotton candy and play with cute figures from vending machines.
