EXERCISE 4.5
it was oddly light and felt sort of like a football.
EXERCISE 4.5
This exercise used the “Beast” object from Exercise 4 as a mold for mycellium. The end result is makes clear what the basic form of the mold was and stands in contrast to the form made when the plastic tabs are considered. The top and bottom got contaminated but the middle areas held up quite well.
Exercise 4.5: Mother Tattoo Part III
A3 on watercolour paper, Indian Ink
I started to work a portrait for the face, after that different type of faces but I wanted to simplify the faces to the maximum. I used Indian ink and I worked on different gradients with water.
57% black ink to less that 1% At the end I used white acrylic to work on the top of the illustration.
I asked people for the interpretation of this and it was pretty close, so I guess it is ok. I have my reservations but motherhood it is really imprinted socially so I was expecting more conflict with the general idea but it was ok to receive.
Technically
I do not think I am any good of a tattoo artist. I love the research and the social interpretation of it but I feel very strange in the idea of drawing onto someone.
Greeting card
I was created with a white background that a different background with a brown colour to simulate skin.
Exercise 4.5: Mother Tattoo Part II
Personal evaluation of mother hood.
I wanted to look into my own family and how motherhood has materialized. I realize that a chain in unhappy mothers has been produced, each generation has an ambivalent feeling of motherhood and their respective mother. They society inability to humanise motherhood and the lack of acknowledgement make difficult the communication among mothers and daughter and the management of pain.
Interpretation
Society..... romanticize motherhood .... real mothers... strangle... cover up
Preservation of the dissociation between the pain and hard work of mother wood and the idealized idea.
I started to work on dissociation... the face represent the face given to society by mother and the hearts is the love the mother feels for their children.
One of the ideas is been drown while your face is the only see floating. I think is an idea that I would like to examine later on.
Exercise 4.5: Mother Tattoo Part I (Research)
As I did the mood board I realize that it feels unreal, like propaganda for a perfume or a wedding. I do not deny that motherhood has this positive connotation but also hide the effort and the pain that come from the social expectation of unconditional love and absolute care.
So I went back and I create the second mood board, This was a more authentic board but was difficult to find pictures. When you read the description to the exercise seems that it is a positive avenue. What happens is the relation of the person who wants the tattoo is not 100% positive? Do you pretend it is? I am not good at pretending so I drown into my own feelings of motherhood and my mother motherhood and my grandmother motherhood.
There is a social chain that links us to feelings that are not always clear until we deep into them.
A week after I was reading the review of a Latinoamerica film call Amazona. I read the interview and the Director said her mother “I want to do a film about your life, the good things and the bad things” and she replied, “what bad things?” This woman abandoned her kids and went to live and travel in the Amazonas.
This idea closes the ideas that have been hunted me. Motherhood and the sacrifices, the social pressure no only to be there but also the happiness (first mood board) that looked fake to me.
I think I wanted to have some illustration that brings all that together, I am not so sure if this is really Tattoo material, but people who tattoo themselves seems pretty interested in new ideas, and outside the book's themes, so why not?
Summary: looking inside how difficult motherhood is for the daughter of a mother who were unhappy and the mothers, to create a safe space to express those feelings.
