Cana hadn't meant to get involved, but when he saw Damien and Jaq running away from the school, as though leading someone away, he blinked and headed after them. He didn't think he'd catch up. He actually thought there was no way in hell he would. But he was stupid enough to try. The nine year old found his way into a crammed little building, hardly bigger than a shack. Jaq saw him come in before the guy. But by the time he could do anything, the shot was already in the air. And then it was smashing through Cana's lung. His breath came in a squeak before he was sent backwards, unconscious and hardly breathing.
