2 Calls for Submissions from Exile Editions
Michael Matheson posted two calls for submissions for forthcoming anthologies from Exile Editions, Start a Revolution and This Patchwork Flesh. Canadian authors are particularly encouraged to submit!
Submissions will be accepted for Start A Revolution: QUILTBAG Fiction Vying for Change from now until March 31, 2014:
From green revolutions to anarchist uprisings. From social compacts to social justice movements. Stories that push boundaries and identities. That invoke a rebellious voice. That cry out for tolerance, community, and change.
QUILTBAG stories are about diversity in identity. Sometimes that means focusing on finding oneself. But the movement is so much wider. Identity is communal. Identity is global. And this anthology looks to tell those larger stories. Stories about revolution, rebellion, and reshaping the world, all told from QUILTBAG perspectives.
Stories about quiet revolutions and very public ones. Personal revolutions and global movements. Some revolutions succeed. Others fail. But in the end it’s the striving for change that matters. Show us that striving.
Submissions will be accepted for This Patchwork Flesh: QUILTBAG Horror from June 1st, 2014 to August 31st, 2014:
This Patchwork Flesh is meant to be, like the Queer Fear books, a wider lens on underrepresented stories, and on underrepresented voices. A chance for readers who identity as one of the many facets of QUILTBAG, or pansexual, fluid, and so on, to see narratives where they are not sidelined, where they are not depicted as secondary characters, always foils, aids, or victims of, or to, “normative” figures.
The inroads have already been made: LGBT horror fiction is by no means unplumbed territory. It is, in fact, a limitless, and growing, aspect of the field, the depths of which have been, or are being, mined by masters in the genre: writers like Clive Barker, Caitlin Kiernan, Poppy Z. Brite, Gemma Files, and John Ajvide Lindqvist, just to name a very few.
But it’s time to cast that net wider still. Time to explore narratives about the monstrous and the horrific, the internal and the external, through a variety of QUILTBAG voices. To bring that next needed expansion to the field. To again widen the conversation. To get a better look at the monsters in our midst, and in the darkness without. And see in them the terrifyingly familiar.
